The Opportunity
Tetra Tech, a leading environmental and engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Certified Health Physicist (CHP) to join our Cincinnati, Ohio office to provide dedicated support on a United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) technical support contract. The position will be based in Erlanger, KY, within a U.S. EPA office and warehouse space.
Position Summary
The CHP must be certified by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or equivalent certification and will perform health physics work in support of the U.S. EPA radiation safety function. The CHP will support maintenance of radiological equipment to ensure that projects meet all federal protocols and environmental laws and regulations specifically regarding radioactive material. The CHP will have excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work successfully both independently and in team settings.

- Maintain and manage U.S. EPA’s radiological monitoring equipment for response readiness.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures associated with radiological monitoring equipment.
- Participate in radiological field surveys, field sampling, and data collection.
- Conduct field experiments and/or data analyses.
- Support U.S. EPA with conducting advanced radiological workshops by preparing agendas, presenting topical material, and shipping radiological equipment to workshop meeting locations.
- Provide radiological response and technical support.
- Communicate and coordinate with project clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Establish, grow, and maintain client relationships.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in health physics, natural sciences, physical sciences, or engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- CHP certification by the American Board of Health Physics, 40-Hour HAZWOPER and 8-Hour Refresher
- EPA standard security clearance
- The CHP will have a responsibility to remain professionally active and knowledgeable in the health physics field and remain technically competent in the scientific, technical, and regulatory developments in the field, and be able to maintain radiological equipment to ensure that projects meet all federal protocols and environmental laws and regulations specifically regarding radioactive material.
- Must be able to conduct project site and client visits, which could include overnight travel.
- Must possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Must also be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment.
This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous emergency response experience.
- Experience working for or on behalf of federal agencies, such as the U.S. EPA.
- Must be able to walk around project sites in all types of terrain and be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment.
- Must be able to complete annual medical monitoring program.
- Role responsibilities will require occasional project site and client visits up to approximately 10%, which could include overnight travel.
- Site work may be completed outdoors within the U.S. during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions.
- Typical Monday – Friday workweek, may occasionally exceed 40 hours/week. Rare night and weekend work on as an needed basis.
