Responsibilities
The Environmental Science Intern will support the Project Managers and project team members with planning and project execution for a variety of commercial, municipal and Federal clients throughout Maryland. The individual will assist in planning environmental remediation and design projects, performing cost calculations to support remediation and construction projects, collecting data at project job sites, report writing, permitting, proposal preparation and other aspects of our projects. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Physical demands of this position include both office work and field work. Field work may include walking over uneven or rough terrain, standing for long periods of time, travelling in field vehicles (trucks, ATVs) over rough terrain, some lifting (up to 15 lbs), and safely managing exposure to a range of temperatures and possible wet weather. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided to safely work in the field. Office work may include sitting for long periods of time and some lifting (up to 10 lbs).
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Office work will be performed primarily in the Germantown, Maryland office with potential assignments to other area offices in Maryland and Virginia. The candidate should expect to encounter typical office conditions. Field work will be performed at various locations within driving distance of the Germantown office, and the candidate should expect outdoor conditions including: variable weather conditions (heat, cold, rain); dry (dusty) or wet ground conditions; equipment noise; and travel in onsite vehicles.
Language & Communication Skills: Effective oral and written communication is essential to this position. Must be fluent in the English language; both in speaking and writing. Report and proposal writing for a range of projects will be expected. Public speaking is encouraged, and facilitation skills are a plus.
Other Skills: Instructions: Candidate must have the ability to work well in a professional and team-oriented environment, as well as independently. Candidate should possess strong organizational skills, excellent leadership skills, and be client-focused. Must possess basic computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. Prior experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, as well as Hydrologic, Hydraulic and Water Quality Modeling programs preferred.

- Work with various project teams to support a variety of government and commercial projects.
- Participate in sampling events, field observation, data collection, and technical report writing.
- Review GIS / drone data to support field work.
- Contribute to procurement and proposal efforts.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Perform additional duties as required.

- High School Graduate (college-level course experience in engineering, sustainable energy, and environmental science required).
- Previous internship or field experience in environmental science required.
- Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in a team environment required.
- Demonstrated effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- A valid driver’s license in good standing, and the ability and willingness to travel to a variety of offices/field sites
