Position Summary
As a Survey Crew Chief, you will lead field staff in the collection of accurate survey and geospatial data using advanced technology, including Leica and Riegl products. You will collaborate with surveyors, contractors, and project managers to ensure data integrity and project accuracy, while maintaining safety and professionalism in all field activities.

You will collaborate with surveyors, contractors, and project managers to ensure data integrity and project accuracy, while maintaining safety and professionalism in all field activities.
Essential Job Functions

- Conduct field surveys using total stations, GPS, digital/optical levels, and terrestrial LiDAR scanners.
- Plan and establish effective survey control networks through traversing, GNSS baselines, and leveling.
- Lead and mentor field staff, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to project specifications.
- Maintain, calibrate, and operate survey instruments to ensure reliability and accuracy.
- Apply knowledge of measurement errors and equipment suitability for varying field conditions.
- Collaborate with contractors and project managers to meet technical and safety standards.
- Adhere to safety protocols and operate company vehicles responsibly.
- Perform mild to moderate physical labor and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Travel locally to project sites within Southeast Michigan and Northern Ohio, with occasional overnight stays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of field experience in land surveying, construction, or inspection.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to perform fieldwork safely and independently.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Engineering, or Geomatics.
- Experience leading survey crews and managing multiple field projects.
- Proficiency with Leica and/or Riegl surveying equipment and software.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform fieldwork in varying conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Ability to walk, stand, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent use of survey equipment and tools.
- Combination of office and outdoor settings with variable weather exposure.
- Moderate noise levels and occasional work on uneven terrain.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Full-time position based in Brighton, MI.
- Travel required within Southeast Michigan and Northern Ohio (typically within driving distance).
- Must be able to operate a company vehicle safely and maintain eligibility under company driving standards.
